McKay Announces Candidacy
Allegany County Commission President Mike McKay has announced that he is running for the District 1-C House of Delegates seat, now held by LeRoy Myers in next years' election. Commissioner McKay made the announcement yesterday afternoon at the Allegany County Office Building on Kelly Road. Delegate Myers has decided not to run for re-election next year.
Three Hurt in Wreck
Three people were taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, following a single vehicle accident on Route 936, south of Cabin Run Road last night. A car, Driven by Oakland resident Ryan White went off the road and struck an embankment. Eighteen year old Thomas Symons of Lonaconing and a juvenile were also injured. White and Symons were cited for underage drinking.
Accident Woman Sentenced in Knife Assault
Twenty-three year old Amanda Darlene Garlitz was sentenced to a total of six months in the Garrett County Detention Center, in connection with a domestic disturbance where she was accused of a knife assault. The incident occurred in January, when she and her boyfriend were arguing. Another man tried to intervene, with Ms. Garlitz throwing a knife, hitting him in the chest. Alcohol was involved in the incident, according to the investigation.
Heroin Found During Traffic Stop
More than 340 bricks of heroin were discovered during a traffic stop on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Somerset County. This comes just weeks after a million dollars worth of heroin was found on the same section of the turnpike. The drugs, seized from a car driven by Kiesah McCoy and passenger, Anthony Lucas. The two are from Pittsburgh, and were both jailed on $50,000 bond.
Oakland Resident Arrested for Assault
An Oakland woman was arrested early yesterday morning at the Boardwalk Lounge and Cafe on Deep Creek Drive in McHenry. Twenty-six year old Rachel Nicole Paugh is accused of physically assaulting 3 patrons of the establishment. She was charged with second-degree assault and held on $5,000 bond.
