Woman Arrested on Prostitution Charges

A Frederick woman has been arrested by the C3I unit on charges of prostitution. Forty-four year old Shannon Leigh Wilson was taken into custody, following an investigation, which included a meeting with Ms. Wilson. When  the officer made payment up front, she was placed under arrest. C3I investigators were aware she had been advertising on a website, and that she had been renting a local apartment. While the investigation is continuing, she received made an initial appearance at District Court, and is free, pending her next court appearance.

 

FSU's Bernie Wynder Passes

Bernard "Bernie" Wynder, the Assistant Vice-President for Student and Educational Services at Frostburg State University , died suddenly yesterday at his home. He was 58 years old. According to a news release from President of FSU, Dr. Jonathan Gibralter, Wynder had been on sick leave, and recently had knee surgery. Wynder had been president of the Allegany County branch of the NAACP. The Durst Funeral Home in Frostburg is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete at this time.

 

Cumberland Resident Arrested on Theft, Drug, and Gun Charges

A 21-year old Cumberland man was arrested in the vicinity of Elm Street Wednesday afternoon, after allegedly assaulting two men with a gun. Kevin Antonio Proctor is being accused of trying to grab a necklace from one of the victim's neck, with Proctor trying to pull a handgun out of his jacket. In a police pursuit, Proctor was seen dumping things from his pockets. Officers located a black, semi-automatic handgun and several baggies of suspected crack cocaine. He is being held without bond in the Allegany County Detention Center.

 

Allegany County Principals Named

Allegany County School Superintendent David Cox has announced the appointment of three new principals for the upcoming school year. Scott Llewellyn will become principal at Cresaptown Elementary School; Martin Crump has been named to replace retiring principal Gary Llewellyn at Mount Savage School; and, Kendra Kenney has been named principal at Washington Middle School, replacing Kim Green there.

 

Friendsville Man Arrested for DUI

Friendsville resident Rodney Lee Schroyer was arrested and charged with DUI, following a single vehicle crash on the Accident-Friendsville Road, near Brobst Road. His 2007 Ford truck ran off the road and struck an embankment. The accident occurred Wednesday evening at 9:34 p.m.

 

Contractor Freed on $5,000 Unsecured Bond

A Somerset-area contractor has four cases pending against him, where he is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from clients. Jonathan Swank began several projects, but finished none of the four in question. Residents also had difficulty in contacting him with questions about their projects. He faces several criminal charges, with at least six of them felonies, including home improvement fraud and theft by deception. He is also accused of writing bad checks to a loca bank. He is currently free on $5,000 unsecured bond.

 

Maryland Receives Manufacturing Grade of "D"

The state of Maryland, according to a study out of Ball State University in Indiana, received a "D" grade for its manufacturing industry health, and stated that tax levels are likely a turnoff for companies in the sector. The overall tax climate was given the "D" grade, particularly because of individual income tax, unemployment insurance, and property taxes. On the plus side, the state earned a "B" grade for productivity and innovation.
