Shirey Pleads Guilty to Murder
Cumberland resident Mark Allen Shirey has pleaded guilty to the March, 2011 murder of 49-year old Michael Simpson, and has been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Charging documents stated that Shirey had broken into Simpson’s home, waited for him to return and shot him a number of times. Shirey’s ex-wife of ten years, Karen Bennett and Simpson had been dating and the two men had been feuding for a long time. Shirey was taken into custody at a campground by state police from both Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Frostburg Man Arrested for Sex Offense
Fifty-four year old Frostburg resident Kevin Wayne Pressman has been arrested, charged with third-degree sex offense and perverted practice. Pressman is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with a fifteen-year old victim. Pressman was taken before a District Court Commissioner and held on $50,000 bond, pending his next court appearance.
Juvenile Case Decertified in Bedford County
A “decertification” hearing was recently held for a juvenile charged in the July 19th shooting death of a fifteen-year old Everett High School student. Once charged as an adult, the case has now be remanded to juvenile court for prosecution. The youth will be sent to Adelphi Village at Anchor House in Latrobe, Pennsylvania for diagnostic evaluation. In addition to that, 41-year old Everett resident Susan Bonner will be charged with furnishing a firearm to a minor and recklessly endangering another person.
More Information on Deceased Inmate
There’s more information on an inmate who was found dead in his cell last week at the North Branch Correctional Institution along Route 220. The victim, 28-year old Charles David Richardson IV was known as “Face,” when he was arrested in May of 2007. Richardson has been called one of the most violent criminals in recent Howard County history. He had been serving life sentences for the murders of two people, including 19-year old Trae Devon Allen, who was shot once in the face and three times in the back, in May of 2007.
Cumberland Man Arrested for Crack Possession
Cumberland resident Angelo Carlton was arrested by the Maryland State Police and charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. Carlton was initially stopped for a speeding violation, when about $1600 worth of crack cocaine was discovered in his vehicle. Also charged was Tiffany Wagstaff of Baltimore. Carlton was held on $25,000 bond, while Ms. Wagstaff was released on personal recognizance.
Man Flees Police, But Later Apprehended
A29-year old Cumberland man is currently being held in the Allegany County Detention Center on $50,000 bond, after officers were called to two different residences on Race Street. Frank MacDonald is accused of destroying property in one home and stealing electronic items from another. He returned to the area, and officers tried to speak with him. He fled the scene, but was later apprehended. In speaking to several witnesses, he also allegedly assaulted a female victim.
Woman Arrested for Assault on Officer
A Cumberland woman has been charged, following a disturbance at a North Centre Street bar. Thirty-eight year old Amy Jean Crawford had been causing a disturbance in the bar, when police were called. She refused to leave, and reached into her pocket and pulled out a foldable knife, attempting to stab the officer. She was disarmed and taken into custody. Ms. Crawford faces a host of charges in connection with the incident and is being held on $25,000 bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.
Somerset County Child Killed by Tractor
A young child was killed Friday afternoon in Somerset County, after being hit by a tractor. The incident occurred just after 2 p.m. In Elk Lick Township. Law enforcement authorities are still looking into the accident, including a determination on how the child was hit along Shoemaker Hill Road.
Berlin High School Student Reported Missing
Berlin-Brothersvalley high school student Daria Kiesnowski remains missing, after fleeing a Johnstown counseling office Friday. According to police, she ran from Conemaugh Counseling Services in Johnstown Police confirm she is missing. She is described as five feet tall and 120 pounds with brown eyes and hair. Most noticeable is a Polish accent. She was last seen wearing black yoga pants, a blue shirt and multi-colored scarf. Anyone with information is asked to contact Tracey Kiesnowski at (814)-267-7118.
