Couple Dies in Fire
A fire at a duplex on Railroad Street in Midland yesterday morning
claimed the life of a man and his wife. The victims were in their mid-50’s, but were not identified by authorities. The woman was revived at the scene, but later died at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. The call came in around 6:30 a.m. The fire originated in the living room on the first floor. Damages to the structure and its contents are estimated to be around $75,000.
Law Enforcement Seeking Brothers in Robberies
Following the arrest of their father on Tuesday, law enforcement
authorities are looking for his sons in connection to two robberies that
occurred in Mineral County, West Virginia and at Steve’s Pharmacy in the
Bel Air Plaza. Forty-nine year old Stephen Mayhew was arrested earlier
in the week. His sons-25-year old Dulin Mayhew and 25-year old Stephen
Mayhew-were last known to be in the Keyser area on Monday. Their current
whereabouts are unknown, but they could be driving a 2000 Buick Century,
with West Virginia registration “DMA-724.” Anyone with information on
their whereabouts are urged to contact their local police department.
Woman Arrested on Burglary, Assault Charges
Fifty-one year old Earlene Louise Everett of Cumberland is facing
charges of burglary, assault, destruction of property and disorderly
conduct, following an incident Tuesday evening on Pear Street. She is
accused of trying to break into a residence in the 200-block. While at
Police Headquarters, she began to punch and kick at officers, striking
one. She was held on $8500 bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.
Traffic Pattern Change for Homecoming Game
There will be changes to the traffic pattern in the vicinity of
Greenway Avenue Stadium for this Saturday’s Homecoming Game. There will
be no vehicular traffic permitted in front of the stadium from 8 a.m.
until one hour after the game. Traffic on Greenway Avenue will be
detoured into the circle in front of Fort Hill High School. Traffic on
Brookfield Avenue will be detoured with a right turn only, allowing
motorists to continue onto Greenway Avenue, away from the stadium.
Questions about handicapped parking, or those in the bands or Homecoming
Court, should be directed to an officer on Saturday.
Focus on the Future Showcase
The Allegany County Public School System will host the 6th annual Focus
on the Future Showcase Tuesday and Wednesday at the Allegany County
Fairgrounds in the multi-purpose building from 9:30 a.m. To 1:30 p.m.
each day. The showcase will target all seventh grade students, and
strives to raise public awareness regarding the importance of career
preparedness. Focus on the Future also promotes economic growth in
Allegany County by keeping graduates locally employed with the necessary
expertise to enter the job market.
Man Dies Before Hearing on Feeding Tube Dispute Occurs
The man at the center of a dispute over whether to remove his feeding
tube has died. Fifty-five year old Daniel Sanger of Washington County
died overnight yesterday. An attorney for his wife says she alone had
the authority to make medical decisions for him; his mother and brother
were seeking an injunction to keep the feeding tube in place. The
hearing on the issue was to have taken place yesterday.
